A Parent’s Guide

If your child has been diagnosed with scoliosis, you want a brace that’s comfortable, effective, and practical for school and sport. We design custom 3D-corrective TLSOs that target 3-plane balance—while giving families a clear, supportive plan.

1) Is a brace indicated? (timing matters)

Bracing helps slow or stop curve progression during growth. Occasionally, it can improve the curve. The decision to start—and the timing—are made with your orthopaedic team and our certified orthotists based on curve, maturity, and progression risk. Starting promptly protects the treatment window.

2) Our design philosophy (3D-corrective, lower-profile)

  • Digital scan → CAD/CAM to model corrective forces before fabrication.
  • Designs align with Rigo-Chêneau principles to address frontal, rotational, and sagittal balance.
  • Attention to comfort drives adherence: smooth edges, smart strap paths.

3) Fitting & in-brace verification

  • Typical turnaround for a custom brace is about 10–12 days from scan; progressive curves can be fast-tracked.
  • Early follow-up confirms comfort and the wear-time plan; in-brace verification is arranged by your physician when indicated.

4) Wear-time plan & practical adherence

We set a daily goal with a simple break-in schedule, teach strap-tension and “check points,” and share school/sport notes so kids can keep participating. If something rubs or leaves a persistent mark, we adjust quickly—usually a simple fix. Optional hour-tracking tools can support adherence.

5) Growth-aware follow-ups & weaning

Expect quicker check-ins during growth spurts for pad/strap refinements or refits. When maturity and curve stability allow, we plan a supervised weaning protocol so posture and activity remain strong as hours taper.

6) What families can expect from us

  • Comfort-first builds and same-day adjustments when needed.
  • Clear, parent-friendly updates and clinician-ready notes.
  • Team approach with orthopaedics, pediatrics, and Schroth-informed physiotherapy when desired.

7) Funding & next steps

We’re an AADL-approved vendor and help with funding steps and extended benefits paperwork.

Short FAQ

  • How many hours per day? It’s individualized; think of it as a daily “dose.” If a day is tough, start fresh tomorrow.
  • Sports & PE? Usually yes; some activities are brace-on, some brace-off—ask us for a tailored plan.
  • Skin marks—what’s normal? Light pink that fades in 20–30 minutes is common early on; persistent redness—book an adjustment.

Turnaround time? About 10–12 days from scan for a custom brace; progressive curves can be fast-tracked.
